Daily data to monthly climatology...

I've got a file of daily maxT, minT and precip for 1948-2002, and I'd like to 
create a monthly climatology for the period 1961-1990, and, create monthly val-
ues for each calendar year of that period for precip, particularly.

What's the best way to do that?
