Use of system fonts?

Hi,
is there (or are there any plans to do so) a way to 
use system fonts so that text is actually included in the postscript
file as text and not as a drawing  ? 

Typically this can be interesting when using LaTex and psfrag (which
allows to replace strings in a postscript file by LaTeX commands and
therefore
any mathematical formula etc).

Or is there at least any other way to place a uniquely defined
postscript graphics primitive somewhere (which chould then be replace
by a text string via an adequate Unix script) ?
