Re: GRIB



Thanks, Ansley, for mentioning the GrADS-DODS Server (GDS)
-- an excellent way to use FERRET to analyze GRIB data. The
only difficulty is that you have to create a desciptor file
for the GRIB data so that GrADS can read it. Only then can
it be served up as a DODS data set and become
Ferret-readable. Rosa had written to the GrADS users list
server earlier today asking about how to create a descriptor
file for her GRIB data ... now and then the issues in these
two communities do overlap! 

Another alternative is to use a program called wgrib
(http://wesley.wwb.noaa.gov/wgrib.html) which can read the
grib data and reformat it to binary, which can then be read
by Ferret.
