Metafile conversion problem

I'm using upper and lower viewports to plots some colour area maps,
and they come out well in Ferret Xwindow. But when I try to view the
postscript output from Fprint, I get the following error message and
only the top viewport appears. Any ideas or does anybody know how to
interpret this ghostscript gobbledygook?
