about bad data

Hi, I have a strange problem here:
I have generated a data set which contains monthly means of Temp on each level
(k=10). Then, I like to computer the decadal means from the monthly mean series.
A strange thing is that after computing the mean, the bad/void data are filled
with values of -99999. I cann't do contours then. What should I do? Below I
attach some listings from ferret. I have set var/bad=-100000. in the original
data set.
Thanks,
Muyin
