ferret in batch mode on Redhat 6.2

Dear ferreters,
i'm trying to run ferret from batch mode

i want to run a ferret go file out of linux - without any graphic display, only
hardcopy and returning to shell (not stay in ferret).

ferret -batch < pos.jnl

should do the trick, but i stay in ferret (which hangs and does not respond to
any input).

if i do and try to print the metafiles i get the following - with a blank page.

roelof@mst74 ~/ferret}Fprint metafile.plt
greadgksm() 162 No item is left in GKS Metafile input
GKSM item 3 is undefined
GKSM item 3 is undefined
greadgksm() 162 No item is left in GKS Metafile input
ro

its also not working to do the notation as:

which is what i actually want to do.
