Graham, Emacs font-lock mode was hard enough, so don't expect me to do it! :) I did a quick web search and found the following page: "Creating your own syntax highlighting file" <http://www.fleiner.com/vim/create.html> You could give this a try and just use the ferret.el file as a guide.... Mark
