Ferret enhancement --> persistence of journal output when crash occurs

Hi Mark,
I believe this behavior has already been fixed in Ferret version 5.1 ALPHA.
The behavior turned out to be operating system-specific. I believe that Solaris
exhibited the undesirable behavior -- possibly others, too.
