Research Interests: My current research interests include the predictability of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the evolution of ENSO with climate change. The main goal is to improve our ability to accurately predict ENSO as early as possible and know how its characteristics will change under greenhouse warming. In both cases, climate models are needed and therefore it is very important to evaluate their ability to simulate ENSO. To this aim, I have developed a python package with the CLIVAR Pacific Region Panel. It is currently used at PCMDI to analyze all CMIP5 and CMIP6 historical simulations (see results here). Now that a first set of diagnostics have been selected, we are looking at the number of members (exploring different initial conditions, initialization procedures, physical parameterizations or forcings) and which observational datasets are best suited for each metric.
