Description_of_Geographic_Extent:
Data are collected along the Alaska Marine Highway System "Southwest Alaska" Ferry route onboard M/V Tustumena from inflow water at approximate water depth of 4 meters. These areas are coastal waters coincident with the Alaska Coastal Current (ACC) between Prince William Sound, Cook Inlet, Homer, Port Lions and Kodiak, Alaska, with less frequent trips west along the Aleutian Islands to Unalaska Island, Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

Time series instruments deployed on this mooring are listed by manufacturer. Data are processed using software provided by the manuracturers of the instuments along with recent calibration files when appropriate. Post processing via 3D software 'ferret' and convert to NetCDF format.

Methodology:
Methodology_Type: Field
Methodology_Description:
Instruments and electronics installation on the Ferry began in Spring 2004, and was completed and became operational in September 2004. System was debugged and improved upon as necessary in the early phases of the project. Data were measured from water directed through a sea water flow-through system on the ship. Approximately weekly, personnel boarded the Ferry in Homer, Alaska to clean sensors. Instruments were calibrated once per year during routine maintence of the Ferry. Several times each year, personnel rode the Homer-to-Kodiak leg of the Ferry route and collected discrete water samples for calibrations
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Data are processed using recommended software from the manufacturer, recent instrument calibrations. discrete water samples for calibration, and 3D software 'ferret'. Missing data value for all variables is 1.0E+35.

Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
Along-track time series data from an instrument/logging system installed on an Alaska State Ferry (M/V Tustumena), extending from September, 2004 to September, 2008. Measured variables include water temperature, salinity, dissolved nitrate concentration, chlorophyll (fluorescence) concentration, Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) concentration and particulate concentration (Transmissometer)
