Part 1 of the NeMO Curriculum gives some general background information about plate tectonics, mid-ocean ridges, hydrothermal vents, and the animals that live near them. It also gives some information on Axial Volcano and the rumbleometer instrument.

Movies #1 and #2 in Part 3 of the NeMO Curriculumm would be good to show while students are going over the material in Part 1. Movie #1 shows an active black smoker chimney. Movie #2 shows a close-up of tubeworms living at a hydrothermal vent. (Note: you will need the Quicktime Plug-in for your web browser).

The rest of Part 4 will concentrate on the Classroom Activities in Part 2 of the NeMO Curriculum.
