A simple rosette-mounted syringe sampler for the collection of dissolved gases

This report describes the design and operation of a simple syringe sampler for the collection of dissolved gases. The samples may be used to collect dissolved trace metal samples where modest volumes are required (v 500 ml). The sampler was designed to attach to a standard rosette, but could be modified to attach directly to a wire. Preliminary testing was accomplished by analyzing North Pacific waters for dissolved trichlorofluoromethane (Freon–11) down to concentrations of 2 × 10M. The data indicate that samples can be stored for periods up to 6 h with no significant contamination.
