AMS Conferences, Meetings and Symposia
ICES Symposia 1995-2004

PICES XII Annual Meeting

Please NOTE: The abstract deadline is July 1, 2003.

October 10-18, 2003
Conference Hall of the Mayfield Hotel, Seoul, Korea

The twelfth Annual Meeting to be held October 10-18, 2003, at the Conference Hall of the Mayfield Hotel, Seoul, Korea. The meeting is hosted by the Government of Korea, in coordination with the PICES Secretariat. Local arrangements are made by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) and the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute (KORDI).

PICES/KORDI/CoML Workshop on Variability and status of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea ecosystems

Please NOTE: The abstract deadline is October 1, 2003.

October 9-10, 2003
Mayfield Hotel, Seoul, Korea

The second regional workshop for the North Pacific Ecosystem Status Report will review the Yellow Sea and East China Sea areas. The workshop will focus on time series observations of marine ecosystems components, including climate indices, ocean circulation and hydrographic properties, ocean chemistry (including nutrients), phytoplankton, zooplankton, fish and invertebrates, and marine mammals and seabirds. A key feature of the meeting will be the opportunity for scientists who are working at similar ecosystem levels to share information on ecosystem variability and processes in the region, and to understand how other ecosystem levels are (or are not) changing.

PICES - Third Workshop on the Okhotsk Sea and Adjacent Areas

Please NOTE: The abstract deadline is May 1, 2003.

June 4-6, 2003
Pacific Scientific Research Fisheries Centre (TINRO-Centre), Vladivostok, Russia

The purpose of the Workshop is to provide a forum to discuss new observational, modelling, and theoretical results concerning physical, chemical, and biological (including human impacts) processes in the Okhotsk Sea, their interactions with the North Pacific, and their bio-physical linkages through all trophic levels of the Okhotsk Sea ecosystem. The Workshop will include 2½ days of plenary sessions, posters, and informal opportunities for discussion. The afternoon of the final day will synthesize what has been learned during the workshop and to capture the main points of interest for the Okhotsk Sea chapter of the PICES North Pacific Ecosystem Status Report.

EPOC - 2003 Announcement and Call for Abstracts

Please NOTE: The registration and abstract deadline is August 13, 2003.

September 24-27, 2003
Wrigley Marine Science Center, Catalina Island, CA

The 50th annual Eastern Pacific Oceanic Conference (EPOC) will be held at the Wrigley Marine Science Center, Catalina Island, California from September 24-27, 2003. EPOC is a multidisciplinary meeting concerning research results from the eastern Pacific Ocean, including the equatorial region. EPOC provides an opportunity for scientists to meet and discuss scientific issues of the region, in a rural setting with few distractions.

PICES - 2003 International Zooplankton Symposium

Please NOTE: The registration and abstract deadline is June 27, 2003.

May 20-23, 2003
Congress Center in Gijon, Spain

3rd International Zooplankton Production Symposium , "The Role of Zooplankton in Global Ecosystem Dynamics: Comparative Studies from the World Oceans", in Gijon, Spain, 20-23 May 2003.

The main goal of the Symposium is to define the current 'state of the art' of zooplankton ecology and to determine key research initiatives to be pursued in the 21st century. The sponsorship of the meeting reflects the global nature and global importance of zooplankton in food chain dynamics and in biogeochemical cycles. A focus of this meeting will be the effect of climate variability and global climate change on zooplankton. Although local, regional and global contributions are solicited, comparative studies between ocean basins are particularly encouraged. Since many ongoing research programs within ICES and PICES as well as national and regional GLOBEC and JGOFS research efforts are now entering a mature phase, papers that have a 'synthesis' theme are especially welcome.
