Re: [las_users] LAS support for feature collections in proposed CF discrete sampling geometries
Hi Upendra,
The LAS architecture will allow it to query data from a CF feature
collection file (Discrete Geometries spec) as readily as from a
database. Actually simpler. It is a matter of defining a new
"operation" in LAS ... something that has been done many, many times.
The issue at this point is that the CF proposal isn't completely stable,
and there isn't a population of CF files of this type to create the
demand. If you need to have this feature soon, then lets talk together
and make a plan for developing the code. Not a ton of code. If done in
Java (which has the most mature libraries for this data) the reading
from CF Discrete Geometry files can likely be patterned after the
current LAS SQL "operation" (would need to discuss this with Roland).

Hi folks,
Is there any plan to have support within LAS for feature
collections (defined in the proposed CF standard for discrete sampling
geometries)? In here, there is some aversion to spend resources on
setting up and maintaining a relational database to store in-situ data
just for LAS. Support for feature collections would make things lot
easier.
