Re: LAS Shaded Plot(GIF) Error in default.spk

Robin,

First of all, congratulations on getting everything set up!

There are two sets of Ferret environment variables: the set that gets
used when *you* use Ferret and the set that is used by the web server
'user' when LAS is run.

You should check that Ferret works for *you* first:

mohawk> ferret
        NOAA/PMEL TMAP
        Program FERRET
        Version 5.22 - 07/27/00
        15-Oct-01 13:42

yes? use coads_climatology
yes? shade sst[l=1]
yes?

If this works fine then you just need to make sure that LAS is using the
same environment variables. First look at these environment variable
settings in *your* account:

mohawk> Fenv
...
...

Then check in lasxml/server/Ferret_config.pl to see if these same
settings are found there. You should see a line like this:

$ENV{FER_PALETTE} = "custom jnls . /opt/ferret/ppl";

When the LAS cgi process is started up, the Ferret environment variables
are taken from this file. The contents of Ferret_config.pl are
automatically generated when you configure LAS on your system. But if
you were logged in as root (or some other user) when you configured LAS,
and if that user doesn't have the Ferret environment variables set, then
the default environment variables will not have been assigned.

If this is the case you can

1) reconfigure LAS from a user account that has Ferret environment
variables

or 2) modify the contents of Ferret_config.pl by hand

Let me know if this doesn't help your problem.
