The @MAX and @MIN transformations let you find the extreme values over some region or time range. 

I have a general suggestion, as you seem to be a new Ferret user.  The first chapter of the Ferret Users guide  will introduce you to the use of Ferret for various analyses; in particular the section called "Thinking like a Ferret" and the sections on transformations and expressions may help you get started with the kinds of analyses you want to do.
