Hi -
The next release of Ferret will have the gfortran library linked in
statically, so that particular issue is unique to Ferret v6.7. In
general as Karl says, the RHEL6 version of Ferret will tend to work
best for Ubuntu and the other free Unix operating systems.
The DISPLAY setting is probably already taken care of in your
terminal window setup. In a fresh terminal window, try
"printenv DISPLAY"

Dear ferreters,
I tried to install Ferrer6.7 in Ubuntu 10.10, following
document instructing how to install Ferret. I followed the
instructions successfully in installing ferret_executables and
customizing ferret_paths. I run the command "$ source
/usr/local/ferret_paths", and it did not show any error messages.
But when i run "$ferret" command i faced an error
message saying "ferret: error while loading shared libraries:
libgfortran.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory". Before that it was shown the same error message for
want of libreadline.so.5.0. I downloaded the file from ubuntu
archives and that error was rectified. I could not find
"libgfortran.so.1" in internet where libgfortran.so.3 and above
are available. Similar question was asked by somebody but not
answered.
Is this problem with ferret version6.7? If so, please suggest
me which version can i install on my Laptop.
One more query regarding Display setting is that in ferret
installation guide, one has to execute the command " % setenv
DISPLAY anorak:0.0 ". There it is mentioned that "anork" is theirs
workstation, if so what it the name should i have to use to
replace anork?
My Linux kernel: Linux 2.6.35-30-generic-pae #54-Ubuntu i686
GNU/Linux. I hope somebody will give solution to my problem.
Thanks in advance.
regards,
-Paul.
