Hi,
 set data etopo20.cdf  !or whatever resolution

 let ocean = if rose lt 0 then 1 else 0

Of course, now "ocean" can be used to mask other variables on the same 
resolution grid as "etopo20.cdf" by multiplying the variable and ocean.
