Re: memory size limits in Linux version

Hi Dave,

I had a look and found that my settings are mostly unlimited for both
limit -h and limit. Seems that's not the problem, but thanks for your suggestion.

Cheers,
Rob

Hi,

The other thing to look at are the memory limits. The kernel may
be configured to small memory access, or you as an individual user may be
limited to the amount of memory access.

For example on my machine (tru64 UNIX) using csh, the hard limits (in the
kernel) are:

baffin> limit -h
cputime unlimited
filesize unlimited
datasize 1048576 kbytes
stacksize 32768 kbytes
coredumpsize unlimited
memoryuse 246072 kbytes
vmemoryuse 4194304 kbytes
descriptors 4096

My personal limits are:

baffin> limit
cputime unlimited
filesize unlimited
unlimited

datasize 1048576 kbytes
unlimited

stacksize 32768 kbytes
unlimited

coredumpsize 0 kbytes
memoryuse 241664 kbytes
unlimited

vmemoryuse 4194304 kbytes
descriptors 4096

I set them to the hard limits in my .cshrc using:

limit datasize 1024 meg
limit stacksize 32 meg
limit memoryuse 236 meg

In bash the ulimit command is used.

Cheers,
Dave
