Hi Mark,
There's also another way to plot a line segment, without
having to worry about line numbers and pen numbers.
Use the PLOT/OVERLAY command, for example:
USE coads_climatology
SHADE/PAL=greyscale/x=0:100/y=-30:30/L=1 sst
PLOT/OVER/COLOR=red/THICK=2/VS/LINE {30,30}, {-20,20}
