how to stop copies of journal files and gif output file

Dear Sir


I am sorry to keep asking a lot.

When I run the ferret script(using bat file), previous journal files are 
kept in the directory. In case of output graphic file (gif or meta file), 
also all previous gif file stay there. 
I tried to stop it using

cancel mode jounal

But still the script runing produce ferret.jnl.~1~ and so on (xxx.gif.~1~).

Could you tell me how to stop it
