Hello Lynn and Martin -

Since you both wrote to inquire about the availability of Ferret for
MacOSX, I figured I'd respond to both of you at the same time.

We do have a bit of history w/ Mac OSX, but Ferret is not currently running
under the operating system.  About a year ago, a fellow in Tasmania gave
porting Ferret to Mac OSX a shot, and he was relatively successful.  He was
able to build Ferret, but the resulting executable had several
problems/errors show up when run through the benchmark tests.  I detailed
these problems to him, and it was at that point that we lost touch and so
they were never resolved.   However, I believe that the problems related in
Steve's mail archive message referenced below are no longer an issue under
the new BSD based O.S.  For example, XGKS will compile, support libraries
are available, etc....

If you (or anyone else) are interested in attempting to build Ferret v5.40
on MacOSX, I would be more than happy to hand over the source code.  I also
have a few of the configuration files that were used by our friend in
Tasmania in building Ferret, and would also include those as well.

Please contact me for further information on getting source code or if you
have any other questions.....
