Equal area grid

Hi ferreters,

 I'm trying to convert an ascii data (SRB data) of equal area gaussian
grid (280 X 280 km,ie 3 grid points in the polar region and 144 points at
equator with equal interval latitudes) to netcdf format.Is there any
method to read this data in ferret?.Or is there an easy way to covnert
that data into netcdf?. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
