Dr. Overland investigates decadal climate variability of the North Pacific, including the Bering Sea and the Arctic. He is interested in the impact of this variability on ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on fisheries and marine mammal species abundance, composition and distribution. His most recent work involves contrasting models of North Pacific time series as long memory processes and chaotic regime shifts.
