State-Space Models in Oceanographic Research

Abstract: State-space models provide a powerful set of tools for dynamic statistical modeling of both univariate and multivariate oceanographic data. In this talk I will present a brief overview of state-space methods, how they work, what they provide to the analyst, and how these methods compare to other methods of analysis used in oceanography. A large number of examples of results we have obtained using state-space methods will be included to illustrate the power of the methods.
