Principal Investigators (PIs) meet to discuss potential operations

PIs submit Project Description Forms (PDFs) to FOCI Coordinator (FC)

August FC and FOLs compile PDFs for operating areas and times 
September FC and FOLs draft Field Operations Schedule

FOLs assign Chief Scientists (CSs)

FC and FOLs present draft Field Operations Schedule to personnel, PIs respond to FC with concerns/comments about draft schedule

October  FOLs conduct solution-based debriefing of summer and fall cruises

FC distributes PDFs to CSs

December  CSs submit Overview of cruises to FOCI Liaison Officer (FLO) and FOLs

6 months before first WECOMA cruise of the field season ________ CSs compile their equipment requests and submit Common Use Equipment Request Form (8 pages) to FLO. Consult the WECOMA Cruise Planning Manual, Appendix 8
120 days before cruise ________ PIs submit Chemical Inventory, MSDSs and Sample Request Forms to CS.

CS begins to develop Cruise Plan (RTF) with participating PIs. Consult the WECOMA Cruise Planning Manual, Appendix 2

100 days before cruise ________ PS submit Chemical Disposal Plan to CS, if using chemicals
95 days before cruise  ________ CS submits draft Cruise Plan to FOLs and FLO

FOLs and FLO approve draft Cruise Plan

90 days before cruise ________ FLO submits draft Cruise Plan to UNOLS
90 days before cruise ________ CS obtains Radiation Use Authorization, if applicable. Reference Appendix 12, WECOMA Cruise Planning Manual
35 days before cruise  ________ CS submits final Cruise Plan to FOLs and FLO

FOLs and FLO approve final Cruise Plan

30 days before cruise ________ FLO submits final Cruise Plan to UNOLS
30 days before cruise  ________ CS holds pre-cruise meeting with science personnel
30 days before cruise ________ All scientists must complete Confidential Release and Consent Form (RTF)
21 days before cruise  ________ Travel arrangements for all NOAA scientists need to be made through the respective division travel departments
14 days before cruise  ________ Form CD-81 "Authorization for Overtime" must be completed and submitted to supervisor for signature at least one week prior to cruise
at beginning of cruise  ________  CS holds cruise meeting with science and ship personnel
At end of cruise ________ CS submits data to FDCs
Before leaving vessel ________ CS submits Research Vessel Cruise Assessment Form (1 page) to UNOLS office
Before leaving vessel ________ CS submits Post Cruise Radioisotope Use Report (2 pages),if applicable, to UNOLS office. Reference Appendix 12, WECOMA Cruise Planning Manual
within 30 days after cruise  ________ CS submits Cruise Report to vessel captain, FOLs, FC and FDC (preferably, the report is submitted before departing the vessel) 

UNOLS Required Forms

A user who has installed the free Adobe Acrobat Reader may view and print PDF files across all major computing platforms (it is available for PC, Mac, and UNIX). The Adobe Acrobat Reader will automatically install as a Netscape plug-in, as well as a stand-alone application. PDF documents appear virtually as they do when printed. The user may zoom in on text and graphics, show bookmarks to jump to sections, tables, and figures, and view thumbnails of the document.
