People:
  • Edward D. Cokelet, PhD, NOAA/PMEL - Principal Investigator
  • Calvin W. Mordy, PhD, University of Washington/JISAO - Principal Investigator
  • W. Scott Pegau, PhD, ADF&G/Kachemak Bay Research Reserve - Principal Investigator

Participant organizations:
Ecosystems and Fisheries-Oceanography Coordinated Investigations (EcoFOCI) is a NOAA cooperative research program between the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) and the Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC). EcoFOCI conducts research in the Gulf of Alaska, Aleutian Islands, Bering Sea and Arctic. Edward D. Cokelet, NOAA/PMEL, is a principal investigator for the EcoFOCI/ GEM/ Alaska Ferry project.
The Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO) is a NOAA and University of Washington cooperative research program. Calvin Mordy, Antonio Jenkins, and Margaret Sullivan work on the EcoFOCI-GEM-Alaska Ferry project through JISAO.
The Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve operates as a partnership between NOAA, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the local community to better understand ecological processes in the Gulf of Alaska, especially in Lower Cook Inlet and Kachemak Bay. Scott Pegau joins this GEM project from the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve.
The GEM (Gulf of Alaska Ecosystem Monitoring and Research) program is a project of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill (EVOS) Trustee Council. The program is a long-term committment to gathering information about physical and biological components that make up the northern Gulf of Alaska marine ecosystem (PDF link).
logo for NPRB (North Pacific Research Board)
NPRB (North Pacific Research Board) was created by the U.S. Congress in 1997 with a mandate to fund marine research in the North Pacific, Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea and Arctic Ocean, especially in cooperative arrangement. The board funds pertinent and pressing topics in fishery managment and marine ecosystems via an annual Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
