New PMEL Director

The PMEL Carbon Group congratulates our very own Dr. Chris Sabine for being chosen to be the next Director of PMEL!  Dr. Sabine has been at PMEL since 1999 concentrating his research on the global carbon cycle and ocean acidification. He has led the development of our global network of CO2 mooring time-series observations and pioneering research quantifying the accumulation of human-derived CO2 in the ocean and its impact on marine ecosystems. Dr. Sabine has been dedicated to communicating our science to the public through a variety of activites such as his work to install a CO2 sensor on the Seattle Space Needle and develop a Pacific Science Center exhibit that displays the data to educate the public about ocean acidification.  He will be the lab's 3rd director since PMEL's creation in 1974.
